Often when something is entirely different than “the way everyone else does it”, you find yourself in the midst of a refreshing experience that surprises you in all the right ways. Everything about Rob & Sarah’s wedding was unique, down to the day of the week — Thursday. They skipped exhaustive and stale traditions for intimate and intentional happenings. The celebration was wonderful and it took place at one of our favorite locations in the entire city, the Garfield Park Conservatory.

There are weddings in Chicago and then there are quintessential Chicago weddings. Ryan and Lauryn’s wedding included two incredible venues in the Windy City; St. Michael’s in Old Town for the ceremony and the legendary Drake Hotel off of the Magnificent Mile by way of a trolley. Grand entrances, world-class views, beautiful décor and two of the most sincere clients we’ve had to date.

Wedding dates can fall on all sorts of interesting times—one of them is Independence Day. This middle of the summer holiday was a perfect backdrop for a country estate wedding in Louisville. The ceremony was incredibly poignant and sweet and full of music, some of the wedding party sang an incredible version of a Dolly Parton & Porter Wagoner song, “Longer Than Always.” The reception was full of musical surprises by many of their musician friends, and the night ended by setting off Chinese lanterns.

This wedding was soaked in modern Chicago elements. The classic cars that line the edges of the Ravenswood Event Center, photos under the L train tracks, and a quick stop for a beer at a local brewery, Begyle Brewing Company. This is the first time we’ve been able to shoot at Ravenswood Event Center, and it is truly special. The old signs, the cars, the beautiful ceremony upstairs all make it a special place to get married in the city.

Max & Samantha’s beautiful wedding was held at her parents residence in the northern Chicago suburbs. The day was full of unique details, ourdoor photos and constant celebration. It was on full display, you coudn’t help but notice how much these two love each other and how much family mean to them. Their day was beautiful, featuring a first-look in a near by park, a sun-kissed photos of the couple and a stunning backyard ceremony. The rain fell furiously just moments follwing thier “I-do’s” but the celebrating raged strong into the night under the wedding tent.

Silly, goofy, wild barely describe the amount of fun this day ended up being. From the groom mouth kissing the dog while getting ready to jumping around like mad men on a windy day at the edge of Lake Michigan, this group of folks thoroughly enjoyed their wedding day. We caught the bride (in her pink onesy) jumping on her bed and captured a unique ice skating first look. The ceremony took place at the Mayne Stage in Chicago a cabaret-style venue and was catered by Chicago’s own Giordano’s deep dish pizza. Having such a cold, windy day could have been made a day like this such a chore, but with this couple, it turned out to be a fun, wistful wedding.

Whenever you have the opportunity to photograph a wedding at a new venue, you never quite know what to expect. This couple’s beautiful wedding and reception took place at the fantastic Salvage One furniture store in Chicago. Few places we’ve photographed have had the almost endless possibilities as this venue did. Salvage One even has a huge Chicago sign in lights that was a perfect backdrop for drinks during the reception. A wonderful day overall.
